ZED RENGEL

Zdenko (Zed) Rengel got his BSc (Biology) and MSc (Cell biology) from University of Zagreb, and PhD (agronomy, botany) from Louisiana State University in the US. He has been Professor in Soil Science and Plant Nutrition at the University of Western Australia since 2001. His interests include cycling of nutrients and toxic metals in the soil-water-plant-microbe continuum, simulation modelling of 3-D root architecture and function, marker-assisted breeding of cereal genotypes for root traits, role of phytomelatonin as plant hormone, minimising glasshouse gas emissions (particularly N2O) in agriculture, etc. Zed gave 51 invited keynote addresses at international Conferences and presented 328 invited seminars at 79 Universities in 28 countries. He is the author/co-author of 400+ publications in peer-reviewed international journals and 48 invited book chapters. He edited 10 books and 6 Journal Special Issues published by Springer, Elsevier, Marcel Dekker, Wiley-Blackwell and Kluwer. Zed’s h-index is 76 (Web of Science) and 100 (Google Scholar). Zed is Editor-in-Chief of Crop & Pasture Science (since 2013), Plants section of Biology (since 2020), and Advances in Environmental and Engineering Research (since 2020), Subject Editor of Journal of Plant Physiology (since 2015), and is on the Editorial Board of additional 9 international journals. He was awarded 9 prizes, 38 fellowships and awards (eg. Fulbright Senior Scholar, Humboldt Lifetime Research Award, Humboldt Fellowship, French Government Fellowship, Campbell Oration-USA, Martin Massengale Lectureship-USA, etc), 4 Honorary Professorships and 5 Visiting Professorships. Zed was bestowed Honorary Doctorate of Science and is Foreign Fellow of Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. In the most recent world-wide assessment of scientists regarding their impact in various disciplines (10.17632/btchxktzyw.2), Zed was ranked #17 in the world out of 56,850 scientists in agronomy & agriculture (top 0.029% of scientists in that discipline).
