Dr. Tan Boon Chin

Dr. Tan Boon Chin is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director at the Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculture (CEBAR) at the University of Malaya (UM). He completed his BSc in Biotechnology at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and holds a PhD in Plant Biotechnology from the University of Nottingham. Dr. Tan’s research interests span plant molecular biology, biochemistry, and environmental-stressed crops. His current work combines omics and molecular approaches to understand the regulatory mechanisms of transcription factors in crops facing climate stress. He aims to improve crop tolerance for near-future climates by developing biostimulants, promoting sustainable agriculture education, and advising policymakers. Additionally, Dr. Tan explores genetically manipulating biosynthetic pathways in plants to produce beneficial bioactive compounds and high-value recombinant pharmaceutical proteins. His contributions extend to editorial roles in scientific journals and leadership positions in professional societies.
